Ballston Spa Presbyterian Church is committed to providing a rich variety of programs and opportunities for individuals of all ages to study God's word and grow in the faith.

Christian Education

Long before the beginning of the Sunday School concept, the importance of teaching faith to children was a priority. Moses and the people of Israel were instructed by God to teach his commandments to their children:

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them
when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when
you lie down and when you rise."
                               Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Sunday School

Our Sunday School is thought of as a partnership between the congregation and parents.

  • Our TEACHERS volunteer as caregivers, instructors, mentors, and leaders as groups proceed through opportunities to learn and grow in the faith.
  • PARENTS are encouraged to discuss the lesson and help their children apply it to their lives during the week.
  • The PASTOR is also a significant member of the team.

We provide many opportunities to experience application of the faith through music, drama, crafts, and mission projects. Lessons recognize and encourage the various learning styles of young people and are developed in ways that engage their senses and interests.

Class Times

  • Classes for children aged 6 to 12 meet during the service. After the children's message, the teachers lead the students downstairs to the Sunday School area. Classes conclude at the end of service.
  • The junior high school class meets from 9:00 to 9:45 am during the school year, followed by worship in the sanctuary at 10:00 am.
  • High school students are encouraged to join the adult class at 9:00 am.
  • The adult class meets from 9:00 to 9:45 am during the school year.

FAITH & FELLOWSHIP: Small Groups for Adults and Youth

We enjoy numerous opportunities to participate in small groups that meet for study and fellowship at various times throughout the year. Currently, the following groups are active:
Thirsting for God Thursdays meets twice a month for dinner and Bible Study. The meal is catered and there are normally two to four Bible Study options to choose from.                      A Ecumenical Women's Bible Study using Beth Moore's curriculum Breaking Free: Making Liberty in Christ a Reality in Life. This will be a once a week study (11 weeks) beginning September 21, 2009. It will be co-facilitated by the Rev. Lynne Crimi, a Deacon at Christ Episcopal Church, and Meg Knight, an Elder at First Presbyterian Church. To join the group or for more information, contact Meg Knight.
The Ladies Luncheon takes place at various area restaurants or in a member's home on the third Tuesday of most months. Contact: Nancy Myers
